Dataset Overview

Data Content

• Comprehensive country code information, covering ISO 3166 codes, ITU dialing codes, ISO 4217 currency codes, etc.
• Diverse sources include:
  • Official short and long names (English, French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Russian) from UN Protocol and Liaison Service.
  • Conventional English short names from the Unicode CLDR project.
  • ISO 3166 official short names (multiple languages) from UN Statistics Division.
  • ISO 4217 currency codes from currency‑iso.org.
  • Various other country codes from statoids.com.
  • Capitals, languages, continents, top‑level domains and geonameids from geonames.org.
  • EDGAR codes from sec.gov.

Data Format

• Provided as a Tabular Data Package; details can be viewed via the provided link.

Data Preparation

• Includes a Python script that fetches current country information from multiple sources and outputs a merged CSV of country code data.
• Uses csvkit tools in2csv and csvcut for CSV generation.

License

• The maintainer releases the dataset under a public domain dedication.
• Note that the original sources (ISO and other standards bodies) may have unclear rights and licensing policies. ISO states its country code list may be used freely for internal and non‑commercial purposes.
